Rail passengers face travel chaos, London - UK

Thousands of members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union at Network Rail and 13 train operators will walk out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the biggest outbreak of industrial action on the railways for a generation.

The RMT is demanding a seven per cent pay increase, which is lower than inflation but higher than what is being offered by employers.

According to the union's general secretary Mick Lynch, the latest offers from publicly-owned Network Rail and private train operating companies had been declined. Lynch added that the strike could last for months if a deal is not reached.
